Special Educational Needs and Disabilities SEND
Royal Britannia Primary School - SEND
At RBS, you will find students and faculty from over 24 different countries. This rich and diverse culture is supported by the English National Curriculum with specific focus on special needs education Through this curriculum framework, we focus on developing the whole child.
We pride ourselves in offering an academic experience that is challenging and differentiated, while ensuring that our students have unique opportunities and are encouraged to enjoy being kids! We are committed to helping our students grow to embody the EYFS Learner Profiles and become caring, communicators, inquirers, knowledgeable, balanced, open minded, principled, reflective, risk takers and thinkers. We believe that building good humans is an essential part of education.
Homeroom teachers and specialist teachers deliver the core subjects in a trans-disciplinary way though our EYFS Units of Inquiry. We are dedicated to facilitating inquiry-based learning and helping our students see connections between disciplines and concepts throughout the curriculum.
Our primary school is one that values inclusiveness. Our ESL and SEN learners are supported by a dedicated team of ESL teachers and therapists respectively. In addition to this, we have a talented Learning Support team that is experienced in supporting students in need of specialised instruction. We are also committed to differentiation across all levels and are mindful of providing enrichment opportunities for students who require an additional challenge.
In addition to being able to take advantage of our well-resourced classrooms, Lea’s Library, Gym, Science Lab and facilities, we also provide a wide range of after school activities (link with RBA). Our students also participate in our community through service programmes like Environment Protection activities at Shaheed Park.
At RB, we know that student success is connected not only to what happens in the classroom and in extracurricular activities but to family. In this spirit, we are a truly family-oriented school where parents and community are warmly embraced and valued. We invite you to visit RB to learn more about what a truly special school we are!
Teaching and Learning - Curriculum -Core Subjects of Instruction
Language Arts (English) Curriculum
Language instruction at RB is delivered through teaching reading, writing and word study. The approach models effective reading and writing techniques that encourage learners to read as writers, while providing pertinent background knowledge carefully scaffolded through units of study as an inquiry-based instructional framework. The aim is to prepare learners to become confident readers and writers who display agency and independence.

Science, Social Studies and Personal-Social-Emotional curriculum is taught within cross-curricular units of inquiry built around important global themes. Science content is delivered through meaningful and age-appropriate contexts in which to explore living things, earth and space, materials and matter, and forces and energy; Social Studies focus on meaningful and age-appropriate contexts in which to explore civics, economics, geography, and history; Personal-Social-Emotional instruction is centred around developmentally-appropriate content whereby learners will acquire the attitudes, knowledge, and skills that contribute to effective learning in school and across the life span.

Drama Curriculum
Drama includes the development of creative skills, verbal and non-verbal expression, an awareness of the perspectives of others and aesthetic appreciation. It enables students to communicate in powerful ways that go beyond their spoken language ability.
Through drama, students can begin to construct an understanding of their community, their environment and their own feelings and emotions. The drama scope and sequence framework identifies the major expectations considered essential in the EYFS.
These expectations are arranged into six strands: creative exploration and expression, technical incorporation, performance, personal and social development, reflection, evaluation and appreciation and drama in society.
